Moderation & Reporting
GeekHub relies on a mix of community reporting and admin review to keep the platform useful and welcoming.
Reporting Content
If you see content that violates our Code of Conduct, report it. You can report:
- Posts — use the flag icon on any post
- Comments — use the flag button next to any comment
- Users — use the Report button on any profile page
When you submit a report, you'll choose a reason:
- Spam
- Misinformation
- Harassment
- Inappropriate content
- Other
Reports go to the admin team, who review them within 24 hours (usually faster).
What Happens After You Report
- Report logged — your report is queued for review
- Admin review — a moderator looks at the reported content and context
- Action taken — content may be removed, or the user may be warned or banned
- No feedback loop — we don't notify reporters of the outcome to protect privacy
Repeated false or malicious reports may result in your own account being reviewed.
Bans
Accounts can be temporarily or permanently banned for:
- Repeated Code of Conduct violations
- Spam or self-promotion abuse
- Harassment of other users
- Posting misleading job listings or scam content
Banned users see a banned page when they try to log in. Ban reasons are logged by admins.
Appealing a Ban
If you believe you were banned in error:
- Go to geekhub.in/contact
- Select "Ban Appeal" as the subject
- Explain your situation clearly — what happened and why you think the ban was a mistake
The admin team reviews appeals within 3 business days. We don't guarantee reinstatement, but every appeal is read.
Admin Actions
Admins can:
- Remove any post or comment
- Ban any user
- Feature or unfeature communities and jobs
- Approve or reject community creation applications
Admins cannot see your private messages or drafts.
Community Moderation
Community owners and moderators have additional tools within their communities:
- Remove posts from the community feed
- Ban users from their community (they can still use the rest of GeekHub)
- Approve or deny join requests for restricted communities
If you have an issue with how a community is moderated, contact the GeekHub team via the Contact page.
