1. Introduction
Welcome to GeekHub (“we”, “us”, or “our”). GeekHub is a community platform for Indian tech enthusiasts, accessible at geekhub.in. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information about you when you use our platform, website, and related services (collectively, the “Service”).
By using GeekHub, you agree to the collection and use of your information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. This policy is governed by the laws of India, including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
2.1 Account Data
When you create an account, we collect your email address and, if you sign up via OAuth (GitHub, Google), your OAuth-provided name and profile picture URL. We do not receive or store your OAuth provider passwords.
2.2 Profile Data
Information you voluntarily add to your profile, including your username, display name, bio, location (optional), website URL, social links (Twitter/X, GitHub, LinkedIn), and avatar image. This information is publicly visible to other users.
2.3 Content You Post
Posts, comments, reactions, community memberships, job listings, event RSVPs, and other content you create or interact with on the platform. Public content is visible to all users. Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted and are not read by GeekHub staff.
2.4 Usage Data
We collect anonymized analytics about how you use the Service, including pages viewed, features used, referring URLs, browser type, operating system, device type, and approximate geographic region (country/state level only). This data is used to improve the platform and is not linked to your identity.
2.5 Cookies & Local Storage
We use cookies and browser local storage to maintain your authentication session, remember your theme preference (light/dark), and store non-sensitive UI state. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service;
- Create and manage your account and profile;
- Enable community features including posting, commenting, and messaging;
- Send transactional emails (account verification, password reset, notification digests);
- Send newsletters and platform updates, if you have subscribed (you can unsubscribe at any time);
- Monitor for and prevent abuse, spam, and violations of our Terms of Use;
- Analyze usage patterns to improve platform features and performance (using anonymized data);
- Comply with legal obligations under Indian law.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data to serve targeted advertising.
4. Information Sharing & Third-Party Services
We share your data only with the following trusted service providers who help us operate GeekHub:

We use Supabase for our database and authentication infrastructure. Your account data, profile information, and user-generated content is stored on Supabase's infrastructure. Supabase is SOC 2 Type II certified and stores data on AWS infrastructure. For more information, see the Supabase Privacy Policy.
Vercel
Our web application is hosted and served on Vercel's infrastructure. Vercel processes basic request data (IP addresses, request headers) as part of serving the application. For more information, see the Vercel Privacy Policy.
Resend
We use Resend to deliver transactional and newsletter emails. Your email address and name are shared with Resend solely for the purpose of email delivery. Resend does not use this data for its own marketing purposes. For more information, see the Resend Privacy Policy.
We may also disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority in India, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of GeekHub, our users, or the public.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account and profile data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will delete your personal profile information within 30 days. Some data may be retained for longer periods where required by Indian law or to prevent abuse (for example, records of account bans). User-generated public content (posts, comments) may remain visible after account deletion in anonymized form unless you specifically request its removal. To request content removal, use our contact form.
6. Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

To exercise any of these rights, please submit a request via our contact form. We will respond within 30 days.
7. Cookies & Tracking Technologies
GeekHub uses minimal, privacy-respecting tracking technologies:
- Authentication cookies: Secure, HTTP-only cookies issued by Supabase to maintain your login session. These are essential for the Service to function and cannot be opted out of while logged in.
- Theme preference: Stored in local storage to remember your light/dark mode choice across visits.
- Analytics: We use Vercel Analytics, which collects anonymized page-view data without using cookies or tracking individual users across the web.
We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking pixels, or share data with ad networks.
8. Children's Privacy
GeekHub is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us immediately.
9. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including TLS encryption in transit, encrypted storage of authentication credentials, row-level security on our database, and regular security reviews. Direct messages between users are end-to-end encrypted. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password for your GeekHub account and enable secure sign-in methods where available.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify registered users via email or an in-app notification. Your continued use of the Service after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
11. Governing Law
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of India, including but not limited to the Information Technology Act, 2000 (as amended), and the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011.
