MBA hiring at consulting firms (McKinsey, BCG, Bain), investment banks, and top corporates follows a specific resume convention. These companies receive thousands of polished applications and use resume screening as a rigorous filter.

The stakes are high, the format is specific, and breaking conventions is penalized.

The MBB Consulting Resume Format

1 page, absolute maximum. No exceptions for any experience level entering consulting.

Bullet structure: Action verb + context + quantified result (every single bullet)

Standard sections (in order):

1. Contact info (name centered, email, phone, LinkedIn, location)

2. Education (MBA first, then prior degree)

3. Professional Experience (reverse chronological)

4. Additional Activities / Leadership (consulting-specific — shows non-work impact)

5. Skills / Languages / Certifications (brief)

The Impact Statement Formula for Consulting

McKinsey and BCG recruiters are trained to look for:

• •Problem: What was the business problem?
• •Action: What did you specifically do?
• •Impact: What was the quantified result?

Example:

"Redesigned go-to-market strategy for a Rs 400Cr FMCG brand in rural markets; identified 3 underserved distribution channels; recommendations adopted, contributing to 22% revenue growth in Q3"

IIM/ISB-Specific Advice

The SIP (Summer Internship Programme) section is critical. For fresh MBA grads, the SIP is evaluated like a job. List it prominently with 3-4 quantified bullets — not generic descriptions of what the company does.

Academic Performance: If you're in the top 20% of your batch, list your rank or decile. If you're not, omit GPA entirely.

Competitions / Case Studies: Case competition wins are highly valued. List with team size, competition name, and result: "Winner, McKinsey Forward Case Competition 2025 (out of 340 teams)"

Post-MBA vs. Mid-Career MBA

Fresh out of MBA: Education goes first. Summer internship is your most important experience. Leadership and extracurriculars carry significant weight.

Mid-career MBA (10+ years pre-MBA): Experience goes first. The MBA itself is a credential, not the centerpiece. Focus on your trajectory and leadership scope.

For Product Management Roles

MBA grads targeting PM roles at Flipkart, Swiggy, Meesho need to show:
