How to Write a Resume for Freshers in India

The Fresher Resume Challenge

You have no work experience, but you need a resume that gets past ATS and convinces a recruiter to give you a shot. The good news: it is entirely doable with the right structure.

What to Include (in order of importance)

1. Projects (Your Most Important Section)

Projects replace work experience for freshers. Include:

• •Project name and 1-line description
• •Tech stack used
• •2-3 impact bullets (GitHub stars, users, performance metrics)
• •GitHub link and/or live demo URL

Aim for 2-3 strong projects. One production-level project is worth more than 5 toy projects.

2. Skills Section

List technical skills prominently. Group them:

• •Languages (Python, Java, JavaScript)
• •Frameworks (React, Django, Spring)
• •Tools (Git, Docker, Postman)
• •Cloud (AWS basics, GCP)

Don't list skills you can barely use. Recruiters at TCS and Infosys test skills listed on your resume.

3. Education

For Indian freshers, education is highly weighted. Include:

• •Degree, college name, branch
• •CGPA (if 7.5+) or percentage
• •Relevant achievements (university rank, hackathon wins)
• •Batch year

4. Internship or Training (if any)

Even a 1-month internship counts. Focus on what you built, not just what you learned.

5. Certifications

• •AWS Cloud Practitioner (free exam preparation available)
• •Google Data Analytics Certificate
• •Meta Front-End Developer Certificate
• •Any relevant Coursera/NPTEL certifications with grades

6. Achievements (optional but helpful)

• •LeetCode rating (800+ is worth mentioning, 1600+ is excellent)
• •Competitive programming ranks (CodeChef, Codeforces)
• •Hackathon placements
• •Academic honors

Indian Job Portal Tips

Naukri: Keep your resume under 2MB, use standard fonts, include keywords for your target role in the headline.

LinkedIn: Complete all sections, add certifications, connect with alumni from your college.

Company portals (TCS iOn, Infosys InfyTQ): These platforms have their own assessments — resume is less important than test scores.
